Beach Watch

Central District Health Department conducts weekly sampling of area lakes for Harmful Algai Blooms (HABs), also known as toxic blue-green algae, and E. coli bacteria from May through September. These results are updated weekly. Lakes that have samples exceeding a certain concentration are put on Health Alert, during this time contact with the water is not recommended. High readings  of E. coli bacteria pose a health concern to the public. Incidental ingestion of water from lakes with a high concentration of bacteria significantly increase the chance of illness. If you have questions about sampling or would like more information please call us at 308-385-5175.
