Central District Health Department Awarded Federal Grant to Reduce Lead-Based Paint Hazards

Grand Island, NE – Central District Health Department (CDHD) has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to address lead-based paint hazards in homes across Hall, Hamilton, and Merrick Counties. The funding will support testing and removal of lead-based paint in qualifying homes to protect residents, especially young children from the serious health effects of lead exposure. Homes built before 1978 are most at risk, as deteriorating lead paint remains a major source . . .

Central District Health Department places Purple Air Monitors in Hall, Hamilton and Merrick Counties to measure air quality

  Central District Health Department (CDHD) recently placed Purple Air Monitors at these six sites across the Central District: the CDHD building, Wood River High School, Silver Creek City Shop, Central City High School, Giltner High School and Aurora Edgerton Explorit Center. At each site, a QR code is available to scan and get real-time air quality readings. Paper copies of the QR code can be found at Central Community College and College Park in Grand Island, and at the Alice M. Farr Library in Aurora. . . .

Changes in WIC Coverage for Hamilton and Merrick Counties

Grand Island, NE - Central District Health Department (CDHD) is excited to announce starting October 1, 2025, the CDHD WIC clinic will be expanding their coverage area to include Hamilton and Merrick Counties in addition to Hall County.   The location of the clinics will continue at the United Methodist Church in Aurora and the United Presbyterian Church in Central City.
