Central District Health Department's Board of Health is currently seeking a Health Director to lead our organization through continued innovation and growth. Central District Health Department serves the 80,000 residents of Hall, Hamilton, and Merrick Counties in Central Nebraska.
This is a unique opportunity to:
- Lead a full-service local health department in existing and developing programs and services through assessment , planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Champion public health program and service delivery through collaboration and communication at the local, regional, state, and national levels.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, local and state government, organizations , and private citizens on conducting the community health assessment and planning, implementing, and evaluating the community health improvement plan.

Local Public Health Profile
Central District Health Department (CDHD) is one of Nebraska' s nineteen decentralized local public health departments. It was created by Nebraska statute in 2001 and is governed by a 13-member Board of Health. The service area for CDHD includes both rural and urban communities covering three-counties and 1,577 square miles. CDHD's budget for the 2025-26 Fiscal Year is just under $9 million. CDHD employs over fifty staff who take pride in quality delivery of a wide variety of effective, efficient programs and services.

DEPUTY DIRECTOR
Assist Health Director in serving a 3-county district of 78,000 residents in Central Nebraska. Performs a variety of interdisciplinary assignments which include but are not limited to: plan, develop and administer grants and other projects; determine and allocate resources such as staff, equipment, and facilities; monitor and evaluate program performance; schedule program staff and conduct staff evaluations; develop effective working relationships with governmental, professional, and community agencies at all levels; obtain and maintain knowledge related to current public health practice; prepare and submit reports; assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations; participate in budget process; obtain and maintain knowledge related to current public health practice; other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
Master’s degree in a health or business-related field from an accredited college or university. Four years of experience in public health or related field of which at least three years have been in a supervisory position.
PREFERRED
Master’s degree in public or community health preferred
Salary Range: $40.18 - $56.31 per hour

LEAD HEALTH SPECIALIST
performs a variety of interdisciplinary assignments which include but are not limited to evaluate/assess health trends and risk factors of an individual/family through technical examination, data collection and analysis, providing surveillance, tracking, and reporting. Works with specific population groups through health promotion and disease prevention activities, participates in assessing and evaluating health care services to ensure that people are informed of available programs and services, provides health education, care management and primary care to individuals and families who are members of vulnerable populations and high-risk groups. The LEAD Health Specialist promotes individual and population health by developing and implementing health promotion and education initiatives and health behavior-change programs in a variety of settings for the diverse populations represented in Hall, Merrick and Hamilton counties. These have a focus on strengthening community-based partnerships involving multiple public and private organizations and agencies to address the identified community health priorities in Hall, Merrick and Hamilton counties.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Possession of, or ability to obtain a LEAD risk assessor certification
- Associate/bachelor’s degree in health-related field preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- One year of related experience preferred.

INFECTIOUS DISEASE MANAGER
POSITION DUTIES
Performs a variety of interdisciplinary assignments which include but are not limited to: Implement program objectives. Investigate communicable disease and other issues of public health significance. Administer medication within scope of practice. Evaluate/assess health trends and risk factors of population groups through data collection and analysis, providing surveillance, tracking, reporting and follow-up on contagious diseases. Works with communities or specific population groups to develop/implement public policy and targeted health promotion and disease prevention activities, participates in assessing and evaluating health care services to ensure that people are informed of available programs and services, provides health education, care management and primary care to individuals and families who are members of vulnerable populations and high-risk groups. Performs a variety of interdisciplinary assignments which include but are not limited to: plan, develop and administer the EPI division; determine program needs; monitor and evaluate program performance; schedule program staff; conduct staff evaluations; develop effective working relationships with governmental, professional, and community agencies at all levels; obtain and maintain knowledge related to current public health practice; prepare and submit reports; other duties as assigned. The Infectious Disease Manager provides mentoring, supervision, and technical assistance to the EPI division staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or related field from an accredited college or university required.
- Current Registered Nurse License preferred.
- Work experience as a lead clinic nurse; experience in public or private agency, or experience in implementation or oversight of a program(s), preferred.
- Two years supervisory experience, preferred.
